I've been reminded about something recently concerning youth ministry and ministry in general. With all of the talented men in ministry, we are capable of doing many things on our own. However, without the work of the Spirit, we can never really accomplish the work of God. Most of us would acknowledge this, but do we really do ministry that way. Although I am a firm believer in excellence in ministry, may we never get too caught up in the programs, events, and procedures that we lose sight of a desperate need for God's blessing.

Matt,
I think you're right on. Acts 1:8 has been a challenge for me recently. We receive power when the spirit comes upon us. I have been so guilty of doing it my way by myself. Yeah, it works for a little bit until the kids see through it, and/or we get burned out from doing too much. I remember asking my leadership team to keep me accountable. My prayer-life was lousy, and I told them we need to bathe every meeting night in prayer. I asked them to keep me accountable on this. We prayed the first night, and after that I blew it off. No one cared. Any teaching is rubbish wihtout the Word. Any ministry not based on complete dependance on God is a lack of humility and a lack of respect for the kids we minister to.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your commitment to ministry under the influence of the Spirit. May we all strive for this!
