The Importance of the Family
I recently attended a meeting of youth pastors in which we discussed the importance of family ministry. One of the main points we discussed was that God ordained the family to be the center of religious training. I could not agree more. Two of the main points many of us discussed were that 1). Parents must buy into the family ministry model and take the responsibility to raise their children in the Lord, and 2). In order to implement a family model into a church, the whole staff (particularly the pastor) must work at it together. May we as youth pastors see the importance of the family in our churches. We must do everything we can to preserve and strengthen the family rather than separate and destroy the family.

I couldn't agree more. It will be a great thing to see what comes of the talks we had.
I very much agree with using a family-based model. The family should be the first church. However, what do we do when a student's family isn't a church at all? How do we care for students whose families are not believers? Won't they feel alienated at times because so much of the ministry involves supporting the family? I have been wrestling with this for some time, but don't feel much closer to any answers.

I would propose a family based model that integrates family ministry with modern youth ministry. I like the happy medium between the two. I think if youth ministry is done correctly (ie. integrating the family and reaching those without godly families) things would be a lot better in the modern church.
Thanks
Matt
